Looking for a down-home gold ol’ folk time? Come on down to the banks of Big Wilson River. Headed by the great big vocals of Darrin Bradbury, BWR performs with a vigor and intensity that will take you back to the porches, woods, train-tracks and hoedowns of the old American South. Also on vocals (and occasionally mandolin and accordion), the lovely April Acerno provides a soothing contrast to Bradbury, heard on tracks like “Slow Down Rider” acting almost (and literally) as the occasional soft hand to wipe the sweaty brow of a man at work. Shaun Goellner backs the pair up on guitar, vocals and harmonica along with Kristen Keller on percussion and the recently added Mike Taddeo on guitar, also of Dewey Decimal and the System.
Together, BWR’s sound is a persuasive musical force that can and will get a crowd going, up, and dancing as tracks like “Father’s Shot Gun” swoops the listener into River’s charging current. “Biscuits and Gravy” and "Twenty Little Soldiers" often turn into sing-alongs at BWR shows as they swoop the audience up in the genuiness of both songs' respective narratives and folk rhythms. Bradbury’s excellent songwriting skill adds yet another dimension to the cohesion that the band possesses. The songs' poetic folk lyrics fused with the sounds of thumping guitar, banjo and mandolin make for a heartfelt, hand-clapping, feet-stomping ride.
